Abundance 02: I Don’t Have Enough Time—An Interview with Gretchen Saffles
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could keep all of the plates spinning? Never missing a school activity, always having the kitchen clean and ready, and even having time to sprinkle in a little self-care . . . and yet, many of us feel our to-do list getting longer by the minute. But what if God actually gives us limits for our good? In this episode, Emily chats with author and mom, Gretchen Saffles, about her own postpartum journey where she experienced discouragement as she saw limitations on her time and capacity. Gretchen also gives some great practical tips for evaluating our priorities and getting into God’s Word, even when you’re busy. Let this Scripture-packed show remind you: there’s only One who can do it all, and he beckons you to rest in him today.
Gretchen Saffles is the author of The Well-Watered Woman: Rooted in Truth, Growing in Grace, Flourishing in Faith and the founder of Well-Watered Women, an online ministry that reaches women worldwide with the hope of the gospel. She is passionate about encouraging and equipping women to study God’s Word and she longs to see women grasp the fullness of the gospel in everyday life. Gretchen lives in Atlanta with her husband and their three children.

R|M Apply Questions:
Think about a time (this can be a full season or a particular time of day) you’ve felt that you don’t have enough time. Consider journaling through these questions:
What do I think will happen if I don’t get it all done?
What do I believe ‘not getting it done’ says about me?
Gretchen discusses the expectations she placed on herself after having her third baby, such as “bouncing back” quickly as a seasoned mom and jumping back into everyday family rhythms. As you look at your current season and to-do list, what expectations and pressure are you putting on yourself?
Read John 6:38. What does it look like for you to carry out the Lord’s will in this season of life? (Psst! You can also read Micah 6:8 to help frame this question!)
Read Psalm 136. Spend some time in prayer that the Lord will give you peace and trust that the pressures of this season will not last forever, but his steadfast love will.
Take a look at your to-do list—is it larger than your capacity right now? Pray that the Lord would give you wisdom to know what priorities to pick up and put down, and how to stay in community with other believers who can encourage and care for you. (Psst! If you’re in a season with more capacity, this is a great time to pray that the Lord might lead you to invest in a mom or friend who’s feeling overwhelmed right now!)
