Gospel Mom 08: On Refusing to Quit + Other Things (GM-C11)

So let’s just say we reach a point where we’re pros at this gospel + motherhood thing… what do we do if it all starts to feel a little stale? As believers living in a fallen world, we know that the process of sanctification is often challenging—which is why we need more than just a framework or a system to keep us going; we need the Holy Spirit. In this episode, Emily and Laura share what they’ve learned personally through the ups and downs of pursuing gospel motherhood, encouraging us to keep coming back to the Lord time and again. Take heart, friend: our God is gracious and he will not allow you to be snatched from his hand (John 10:28). We can trust that even in seasons when we don’t see the fruit of our efforts, the Spirit is still at work.

Mentioned on the Show:

Trying to find God’s will for your motherhood?

As moms, we’re surrounded by a lot of messages of who we “should” be and what we “should” do. But in Christ, there’s incredible freedom to be a mom who is unique and individual, while glorifying God and being faithful in motherhood. Not sure what that looks like? That’s exactly why the Risen Motherhood co-founders, Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler, wrote these books.

Gospel Mom: How to Make Biblical Decisions and Discover the Mom God Created You to Be, along with its companion workbook Becoming a Gospel Mom is available now.

R|M Apply Questions:

  • Think about a time when you didn’t feel like your efforts were bearing fruit, but in hindsight, you can see how thee Lord was growing and changing you. How can this encourage you in your current season?

  • Read Hebrews 12:1-3. What does it look like for you to “run the race with endurance” in your current circumstances? Pray that the Lord will help you see his guiding hand in your life and that you’ll trust him with what’s next.

  • Open up your journal or sit down with a trusted friend to unpack this question: What is fascinating you about God right now? (Even if it feels awkward at first, be willing to unpack this and spend some time on it. You may be surprised at what the Spirit reveals to you during this intentional time!)

  • Consider joining or starting a local Bible study or friend gathering to intentionally have spiritual conversations with other believers. Remember this doesn’t have to be 1-1 quiet time, it can look like a playdate at the park, a morning walk, or a string of audio messages back and forth.
