Ask Us Anything! Fall 2024 Edition

The R|M community never disappoints when it comes to submitting questions for our AUA shows! Here we go again, friends—in this one-hour conversation, Emily and Laura take to the mic to answer your questions. From what they’d tell themselves in the little years to how to find your personal style, sharing favorite recipes and their latest thoughts on aging, this is one you don’t want to miss. As you listen, we hope you don’t feel pressure to do life just like them, but that you see the beauty of the ways the gospel meets us in every season of motherhood.

Questions:

  • What words of encouragement can I give to a friend whose child has a disability?

  • How does one know when they are done growing their families?

  • When you look back on being a mom of young children (infant/toddler years), what do you wish you could tell yourself?

  • Who wrote the different parts/chapters in the Risen Motherhood book?

  • How do you incorporate quality time with your husband in the midst of busy work schedules, raising kids, and all the other life things happening?

  • How can I get out of the bitter mindset of ‘I do way more than my husband with the house and kids’?

  • How did you two meet? Do you live close to each other and/or any parents?

  • What is your go-to weeknight recipe?

  • How to find your own personal style?

  • What were your first jobs?

  • How do you approach social media as a mom?

  • What has been most helpful in coming to terms with your changed body after you finished having babies?

R|M Apply Questions:

  • Are there ways you’re currently struggling with the belief that you’re a “bad mom” or feel you fall short of God’s calling for your motherhood? Pray that the Lord will help you show compassion toward yourself and give you eyes to see the way he sees you as his beloved daughter.

  • If being weary of the “mental load” hits home for you, first consider spending some time in prayer, bringing your cares wholeheartedly to the Lord. Secondly, prayerfully consider discussing these expectations and stressors with your husband. How can you both seek to love one another better?*

  • What makes you feel pressure to organize your family life in the same way your siblings or extended family does? (How might you unintentionally place these same expectations or pressures on other family members?) How could you and your husband set a tone for your family that allows for doing things differently, each pursuing God’s design for your individual families?

  • Read John 20:24-28 and consider the implications of Jesus’ post-resurrection scars. What does it look like to faithfully steward the body God has given us? How is this different from the ways culture tells us to treat our bodies?

*This question is intended for those in healthy marriages that are not subject to abuse of any kind. If you’re in a physically or emotionally abusive marriage, please reach out to a trusted friend, counselor, pastor, or medical professional who can speak into your specific circumstances.
